Proof reading: 5 common errors to spot

This blog post is adapted from an article written for the site by Jo Draper from Wordsworth reading. “Have you finished your thesis/dissertation/ paper?” The dreaded question; but the one we all hope to answer positively one day! However, even if the writing is finished there are many things that stand in the way of a finished ‘finished’ project, not least proof reading. So much success is lost because of proof reading errors that have not been picked up and amended before the piece is handed in. This can be hugely disappointing and even worse when you read through the project after you have handed it in and spot mistakes. Being able to proof read your own work successfully is a good skill to have and will no doubt help improve future work by informing you on how to improve your writing when you first put it down on paper, making 'finishing' your project one step closer. ... read more
